Traditionally, a Tailcoat and Morning Coat are slightly different in both design as well as in intended usage.
Both are knee-length coats, but a tailcoat is characterised by a horizontal cut-away at the front waist, and a double 'tail' configuration. A morning coat differs in that the front cut-away is angled/curved and less severe. The back might not be split into 'tails'. Tailcoats are traditionally reserved for very formal evening events - often referred to as 'White Tie Events' and are black, worn with plain formal black trousers and a white bow tie, white shirt and white or black waistcoat. Morning coats are traditionally worn for formal daytime events - hence called 'morning dress' - and are often paired with contrasting or striped trousers and creatively styled with with neckwear, waitcoats, hats etc. Nowdays, of course, the lines between tailcoats and morning coats are 'blurred' and often 'wearing tails' refers to morning coat styling.
